Griffin Notebook: Regis & MSU Denver

Griffins Travel to Regis, Host MSU Denver
The Westminster women's soccer team looks to extended its three-game winning streak with a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games this weekend. The Griffins will host Regis at Dumke Field on Friday at 3:30 p.m. They will then travel to MSU Denver to face the Roadrunners on Sunday at noon.
 
Both of the games will be broadcast live on the RMAC Network with the home team producing the content. Live stats will also be available during the action. Links for all live features are available at WestminsterGriffins.com/live.

About the Griffins
Westminster begin the week with a 6-1 overall record and 3-0 in RMAC play. The Griffins have won three straight games and outscored the opposition 8-0 in those outings. They have gone 3-1 at Dumke Field this season and 1-0 in road games.
 
The Griffins rank second in the RMAC by scoring 1.86 goals per game and they lead the conference in shots (17.14) and shots on goal (9.43). The team has recorded seven assists on their 13 goals and has attempted 37 corner kicks.
 
Madison Roemer has scored seven goals to lead the team and the conference. Roemer also leads the conference with 16 points. She has taken 28 shots and put 16 on goal. Heidi Lorschider has scored two goals and is second on the team in that category. Tiana Cerciello has attempted 23 shots with 16 on goal.
 
Westminster has allowed just one goal in seven games this season and has a team goals-against-average of 0.14 to rank second in the RMAC. That would also rank third in the NCAA if the team was eligible for NCAA statistical rankings. They enter play having gone 294 minutes without allowing a goal. The opposition is taking 4.6 shots per game and putting 53.1 percent of them on goal.
 
Breanna Empey has started and earned the decision in all seven games of the season. Empey has a 0.14 GAA and .941 save percentage. Hillary Weixler has made one appearance without allowing a goal or making a save.
 
Historic Season for Women's Soccer
• The 2016 season is the 10th season of competition for the Westminster women's soccer program. The Griffins have gone 102-67-13 (.596) all-time and they have recorded six straight seasons with at least 10 wins. The Griffins recorded the 100th win in program history at Colorado Mesa on September 18.
 
Defense Rules
• The Griffins have allowed only one goal this season and they are second in the RMAC with a 0.14 GAA. The team has a .941 save percentage which would rank fourth in the NCAA and they would be fifth in the country with a .857 shutout percentage. The team hasn't allowed a goal in 294 minutes entering the week after already posting a stretch of 355 minutes without a goal earlier this season.
 
One Goal Only
• Westminster hasn't allowed an opponent to score multiple goals in a game at Dumke Field since October 20, 2013. During that 21-game span the team is 16-3-2 with 12 shutouts. They have outscored the opposition 43-9 in those games and they have allowed just two total goals in the past nine home games.
 
Tricky
Madison Roemer tallied her first career hat trick – the fifth in school history – against UCCS on September 25. The senior added an assist in the win to set a school record with seven points. Roemer has scored seven goals this season and leads the conference in goals and points. Her five game-winning goals are the most of any player in the country. Roemer also leads the RMAC by taking 4.0 shots per game and she was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
 
Up the Charts
• With those seven goals this season, Roemer has moved into a tied for fifth in team history with 16 career goals. She also ranks sixth with 39 career points and second with nine game-winning goals. Roemer can also be found in the Westminster top-10 in shots (93) and shots on goal (48).
 
Creating Chances
Tiana Cerciello is third on the team with three points and she scored her first goal of the season at Colorado Mesa on September 18 to notch her second career game-winner. Cerciello is third in the RMAC by taking 3.29 shots per game and she is tied for the team lead with 16 shots on goal.
 
Constant Presence
• Senior Maddie Lewis has started all seven games at defense for the Griffins this season and she is the only player to play all 550 minutes of action. Lewis has now played in 59 consecutive games and made 57 straight starts. Lewis ranks eighth in team history with 5,265 minutes played and she is fourth all-time with those 57 straight starts.
 
Brick Wall
Breanna Empey has started all seven games in goal for the Griffins and ranks second in the RMAC with her 0.14 GAA while leading the league with a .941 save percentage. Empey has compiled a 6-1 record and her five shutouts already rank tied for sixth in a single season in team history. She was named the RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday after posting a pair of shutouts with five saves last weekend.
