Women’s Soccer Visits Adams State, Fort Lewis This Weekend

The Westminster women's soccer team continues Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this weekend with a pair of road games in Colorado. The Griffins play at Adams State in Alamosa, Colo., on Friday at 3 p.m. before a trip to Fort Lewis in Durango, Colo., on Sunday at 1 p.m.

ABOUT WESTMINSTER
Westminster opened RMAC play by splitting a pair of home games last weekend. The Griffins are 4-1 overall this season and 1-1 in conference action. They are currently tied for fourth in the conference with four points and their .800 overall winning percentage is best in the league. They have gone 3-0 in road games and are 3-0 when leading at the half.
 
The Griffins are scoring 1.40 goals per game and they have scored at least one goal in all but one game. The team ranks fourth in the league in both total goals and goals per game. Westminster is ninth in the RMAC by taking 56 total shots and their 3.2 points per game is tied for sixth in the conference.
 
Westminster is holding the opposition to 7.8 shots per game and they are second in the RMAC with a 0.58 goals-against-average. They haven't allowed more than one goal in a game this season and have two shutouts. The goal by Colorado Christian on Friday in the 52nd minute snapped a span of 315 minutes without allowing a goal by the Griffins. The team has made 16 saves with a .842 save percentage.
 
Senior Rylei North leads the RMAC with four goals scored this season and she is also tops with three game-winning goals. She also sits atop the league rankings in points (8) and points per game (1.60) while ranking seventh in the conference with 20 shots and fourth by taking 4.00 shots per outing. Madison Roemer is second on the team with three points after scoring one goal and adding one assists against CCU last Friday.
 
Abi Yanke has started every game in goal this season and compiled a 4-1 record with two shutouts. She ranks fourth in the RMAC with her 0.64 GAA and is seventh with a .824 save percentage. Her 14 saves are 10th-most in the RMAC.
 
LOOKING BACK
Westminster went 1-1 during their first weekend of RMAC play last weekend at Dumke Field. They earned the first RMAC win in the school's history with a 2-1 win against Colorado Christian on September 18. Madison Roemer had one goal and one assist in the win and Rylei North added her fourth goal of the season.
 
The Griffins then suffered a 1-0 loss to preseason RMAC favorite Colorado Mines on September 20. The Orediggers got a goal in the 66th minute and held off a flurry of shots from the Griffins in the closing minutes to snap Westminster 11-game unbeaten streak at home.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
• Adams State – The Grizzlies begin play this week at 2-1-3 overall and 0-1-1 in RMAC play after the first week of conference play. ASU is winless in their last three games played and they have gone 2-0-2 at home. Hope Cruz leads the team with three goals and Dezirae Armijo has taken a team-best 24 shots. Molly O'Connor has made 15 saves with a 1.04 GAA in five starts in goal.
 
Friday is the first all-time meeting between the Griffins and Grizzlies.
 
• Fort Lewis – The Skyhawks enter the week's action with an overall record of 3-2-1 and they are 1-1 in RMAC games. FLC won 3-0 at Colorado State – Pueblo before falling at New Mexico Highlands, 1-0, last weekend. They will play their first home games of the season this weekend. Courtney Riley leads the team with two goals and Jordan Hix has taken a team-high 10 shots. Caitlyn Espinosa has played every minute in goal with a 0.80 GAA and .857 save percentage.
 
Westminster and Fort Lewis will meet for the first time on Sunday.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
The Griffins have been stellar on the home turf of Dumke Field in the history of the program. The team is 50-14-6 (.757) at home all-time and they posted a 16-game unbeaten streak from August 2011 through September 2012. They had gone 11 straight games at Dumke Field without a loss before Sunday's loss to Colorado Mines. During that run they had outscored the opposition 28-6 with nine wins and five shutouts.
 
ALL-TIME SCORING LEADER
Rylei North has continued where she left off from last season. After scoring a school record 16 goals in 2014, North has already scored four times this season. She enters the week as the Westminster career leader with 30 goals and 63 points. North is the only player in school history with two 10-goal seasons and she also holds the school record with 11 game-winning goals, 142 shots, and 90 shots on goal. Her two goals at Chaminade marked the eighth multi-goal game of her career.
 
STARTER IN CAGE
Abi Yanke has earned four wins in goal already this season and she sits second in school history with 27 career victories. The senior is fourth in the RMAC with her 0.64 goals-against-average and she is the Westminster all-time leader with a 0.69 career GAA. She has started the last 40 games played by the team with a 27-8-5 record in those starts. Yanke is also second in school history with 17 shutouts and her 108 saves are fourth-most in team history.
 
RMAC PRESEASON POLL
Westminster begins its first season in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2015 and they were picked to finish 12th in a poll of the league's coaches that was released last month. The Griffins received 18 points in the poll. Colorado Mines was chosen as the favorite to win the RMAC title after winning the regular season and tournament titles last season.
