Box Score VICTORIA, Texas – The Westminster College women's soccer team got a huge performance from the Cooper sisters to lead them to a 7-1 win over Houston-Victoria (Texas) on Saturday afternoon.
Camille and
Carissa Cooper combined for five goals and one assist in the win. Westminster (12-4-1) also got goals from
Nicole Carter and
Margo Hickman on the afternoon.
It was Carter that started the scoring for the Griffins with her strike in the ninth minute. After assisting on the first goal,
Camille Cooper scored the first of her two goals just 26 seconds later to give Westminster a 2-0 lead on an assist from Hickman.
Carissa Cooper took over the game with back-to-back Westminster goals starting in the 21st minute. She added her second goal in the 27th minute, with both of these goals being unassisted. Houston-Vicotria (6-10) tallied their lone goal in the 29th minute when Iris Mares got one into the Griffins goal.
After intermission,
Camille Cooper scored her second goal and an assist from
Justine Jones in the 53rd minute.
Carissa Cooper would make her way into the Westminster record books by completing the hat trick with her strike in the 64th minute from
Bettina Oesch. Hickman would cap the afternoon with a goal in the 79th minute.
The hat trick by
Carissa Cooper is the first of her career and the second this season by a Griffin. It is also just the fourth all-time in school history and ties her for the school record for goals in a game. With three points in the game, Hickman is now tied for the school record with 45 career points. She also had her school-record 13th career assist.
Westminster finished the afternoon with a 23-5 advantage in shots attempted while putting 14 of those attempts on goal.
Camille Cooper had a team-best six shots and four on goal with Hickman putting four of her five shots on target.
Carissa Cooper finished with four shots and all of them on goal.
Jamie Wilkinson earned the win with one save in 81 minutes in goal.
Abi Yanke made one stop during her nine minutes in relief.
The Griffins will conclude the regular season on Sunday at 11 a.m. with a game against Texas at Brownsville.
