SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's soccer team will wrap-up the 2012 regular season with two games in Texas this weekend. Westminster begins the trip at Houston-Victoria (Texas) on Saturday at 3 p.m. at The Cage on the Houston-Victoria campus. The final game of the regular season comes on Sunday against Texas at Brownsville at 11 a.m. in Victoria.
Griffin Notebook
Westminster returns to the road at 11-4-1 on the season after splitting two games in Montana last weekend. The Griffins finished Frontier Conference play at 3-2-1 and are in need of some help to win the league title. The team has gone 4-3 away from home this season.
This marks the third straight season that Westminster has reached at least 10 wins in a single campaign. They are one win shy of matching the school record of 12 wins that was set last season. They have also clinched the school record for fewest losses in a campaign. The old record for fewest losses was seven set last year.
Westminster fell out of the NAIA Top 25 poll this week for the first time this season. The Griffins had been ranked in 11 consecutive polls dating back to last season. They are currently listed among the other teams receiving votes in the 28th position. They are also ranked No. 35 in the latest edition of the Massey Ratings that came out on Monday.
Westminster is averaging 2.38 goals per outing while taking 14.9 shots per game. They have set a new school record with 30 assists on the year and rank 44th in the NAIA with that total. The team has managed 128 shots on goal and taken 55 corner kicks. Defensively the Griffins give up 1.38 goals per contest and allow the opposition 10.8 shots. Westminster opponents have 91 shots on goal with 18 assists and 41 corner kicks.
Rylei North is the team's leading scorer with 10 goals and 21 points. The sophomore forward is three goals shy of matching the school record of 13 and needs seven points to match the points record. She has taken 35 shots with a team-best 25 on goal while also leading the team with three game-winning strikes.
Jaime Nelson and
Justine Jones are second on the team with five goals apiece. Nelson has added five assists for 15 points to match
Margo Hickman for second. Hickman had four goals and is tied with
Lorin Wathen for the team lead in assists with seven.
Alyssa Hill has 10 points behind four goals and two assists while
Amanda Peppers and
Camille Cooper have two goals each.
Dayna Winter-Nolte and
Jamie Wilkinson have split duties in goal this season. Wilkinson has recorded a 6-1 record with two shutouts and a 1.04 goals-against-average. She has made 32 saves with a .800 save percentage. Winter-Nolte is 5-3-1 on the year with three shutouts. She has a 1.56 goals-against-average and 36 saves in nine starts.
Against the Opposition
Westminster has never played Houston-Victoria or Texas at Brownsville.
