Box Score BOX SCORE

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over 10th-ranked Point Loma Nazarene on Friday afternoon. Westminster tallied a Heather Hillam goal in the 65th minute and then packed it in defensively to hold off the visitors. Westminster is now 2-4-1 on the season while Point Loma Nazarene falls to 0-1-1

The Griffins got the only real opportunity of the first 45 minutes on a Vanessa Jordan last that was collected by PLNU keeper Tiffany Kracy in the second minute. Neither team would register a shot on goal until the 62nd minute when Lindsay Bollar had her attempt stopped by Lindsay Bekken of the Griffins.

Hilliam would tally the game's only goal just three minutes later when she finished a scramble in the box for her third goal of the season. The goal came on the second shot of the contest for Hillam and her only shot on frame.

Westminster only attempted five shots in the game and put just the Jordan and Hillam shots on frame. After the goal, the Griffins played more defensively and held off five second half shots from the visitors. PLNU managed nine shots in the game and put four of those on goal and also had a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. Bekken earned her third shutout with four saves.

The win is the second in school history over a ranked opponent for the Griffins. The other came over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) at Dumke Field last season. Westminster will face Embry-Riddle on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at Dumke Field.
