Griffins Begin Spring Season

Westminster began its 2010 Spring Season last weekend with a visit to the BYU Invitational Indoor Tournament. The Griffins came away with one tie and one loss against two NCAA Division I teams. Westminster tied 0-0 with Utah State and narrowly lost to BYU 1-0.

"Last weekend was a great experience for our team," said head coach Tony LeBlanc. "We opened up play against in-state rival Utah State and had a very strong showing. Our girls were a little nervous at the beginning of the game but turned a solid first half into a dominating second half."

The second game was against national DI powerhouse BYU. Westminster lost 1-0 in a very respectable showing.

"We played fantastic against one of the top DI Women Soccer programs in the country," said LeBlanc. "It was a great experience for our girls to see the speed of play of BYU and to battle tough with them the entire game. Hopefully, this will propel us into our next set of games at the University of Wyoming on March 7th."

Westminster returns to action this weekend at another Spring Indoor Invitational Tournament, hosted by the University of Wyoming. The Griffins are slated to play 3 games during the tournament and open with the host Wyoming. Their final two games will be against two DII schools from Colorado, in Metro State and Colorado School of Mines.
