Westminster's Ashley Lam Competing This Week in 126th U.S. Women's Amateur

8/4/2026 11:06:00 AM

Westminster University women's golf standout Ashley Lam is competing this week in the 126th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, held August 4-9 at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.

Lam earned her spot in the 156-player field as champion of the 2026 Utah Women's State Amateur, where she defeated six-time champion Kelsey Chugg 1 up in a 36-hole final at Oakridge Country Club — the first women's amateur title of Lam's career. The rising senior trailed early in her semifinal against Utah Tech's Samantha Phelan before rallying to win in 19 holes, then went all square through the first 18 holes of the championship match before pulling away with a 73 over the closing 18 to close out the win.

The state title capped a decorated 2025-26 season for Lam, who claimed back-to-back RMAC individual championships and was named RMAC Women's Golfer of the Year for the second straight season, closing the year ranked 29th nationally and 8th in the West Region.

Championship Format

The event opened today with the first of two rounds of stroke play (Aug. 4-5) at The Honors Course, a 6,539-yard, par-72 Pete Dye design. The low 64 scorers after 36 holes advance to match play, which runs from the Round of 64 on Thursday, Aug. 6, through the semifinals on Saturday, Aug. 8. The championship match is a 36-hole final on Sunday, Aug. 9.
