Westminster University's Ashley Lam captured the 120th Utah Women's State Amateur Championship on Thursday at Oakridge Country Club, defeating six-time champion Kelsey Chugg 1 up in the 36-hole final.
The match was all square after the first 18 holes, with both players carding a 74. Lam pulled away in the second round, posting a 73 to Chugg's 77 over holes 19-36 to claim the title by a margin of 1 up.
Lam recorded three birdies across the 36-hole final, converting on holes 8, 11, and 18 to fuel her championship run. The victory marks Lam's first Utah Women's State Amateur title, adding another major accomplishment to an already decorated year that included back-to-back RMAC individual championships, RMAC Women's Golfer of the Year honors, and Second Team All-American recognition from the WGCA.
