Bozeman, MT - The Westminster men's and women's track and field teams turned in a very productive weekend performance at the Carignan Classic, hosted by Montana State University, highlighted by two school-record marks. Freshman
Dario Garcia Sanchez set the program record in the men's 200 meters with a time of
22.36, while freshman
Kanoe Haneberg broke a Westminster record in the women's triple jump, clearing
10.82 meters.
The men delivered several strong season-opening efforts across sprint, middle-distance, and distance events. In the 200 meters, Orion Patten opened his season with a 23.10, followed closely by Zac Levin at 23.15. Freshman Zekial Kearney led the quarter-milers, running 51.08 in the 400 meters. In the middle distances, Elliot Vargas posted a solid 1:58.82 in the 800 meters, while the distance group closed the meet with personal records from James Stock (10:09.66)and Walker Hall (10:17.46) in the 3,000 meters.
The women were paced by multiple personal-best performances throughout the meet. Mia McKay produced a notable breakthrough in the shot put with a throw of 10.42 meters and followed with a strong 27.24 in the 200 meters. Eileen O'Connor continued her upward trend, recording personal records in both the 800 meters (2:21.92) and the 3,000 meters, where she finished third overall in 10:54.43. Additional progress came from Isabel Crofts, who ran a personal best 9.87 in the 60-meter hurdles, and Mac Beckham, who recorded a PR of 28.47 in the 200 meters.
The Griffins return to action on February 13–14 at the Mountain State Games in Pocatello, Idaho.
