Pocatello, ID - The Mountain State Games opened with standout performances on both the women's and men's sides, led by
Johanna Mapson as the highlight for Westminster's women. Mapson delivered a historic run in the 60 meters, breaking the school record with a time of 7.97. On the men's side,
Elliot Vargas emerged as the top performer, putting together an impressive double with personal records in both the 800 meters and the 3000 meters. Vargas ran 1:58.49 in the 800 and followed it up with a 9:24.40 in the 3k, showcasing his range and setting the tone for a strong showing by the men's distance group.
The men's team continued to build momentum throughout the meet with solid depth across multiple events. Freshman Colin Morgan turned in a strong performance in the 800 meters, finishing with a 1:59.07 and contributing valuable points. In the sprints, Zac Levin and Jeremy Alba led the way in the 60 meters, each clocking 7.12 in the preliminaries to pace the Griffins. The men's 4x400 relay capped off the weekend with a podium finish, as Nicc Winegar, Sebastian Moon, Morgan, and Dario Garcia Sanchez combined for a 3:27.89 performance to secure third place against tough competition.
The women's team matched that success with multiple personal bests and key performances. Kanoe Haneberg continued her strong season by breaking her own school record in the high jump, clearing a new personal best of 1.66 meters. On the track, Angela Martin Rubin earned a qualifying mark in the 800 meters, while Eileen O'Connor posted a personal record in the 3,000 meters. The weekend was rounded out by Mia McKay, who delivered a strong showing in the pentathlon with a personal-best score of 3,139 points and an eighth-place finish, highlighting the depth and progress of the Westminster women at the Mountain State Games.
