SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – The Westminster women's golf team earned a thrilling victory at the Wasatch Invitational, held September 21–22 at Glenmoor Golf Club in South Jordan, Utah.
The Griffins opened the event tied for fourth after round one with a team score of +21. Ashley Lam led the way with a +1, followed by Lily Shin (+3), Reimi Bleyl (+6), Kindra Hirasuna (+6), Remi Rawlings (+6), Bella Wade (+8), and Jailee Snow (+12). Competing as individuals, Madalyn Hadley carded a +7 and Campbell Kato finished at +12.
On the final day, Westminster delivered the lowest team round of the tournament at +13, surging past Westmont College for a one-stroke victory (+34 to +35) to secure the team title. The highlight came from Reimi Bleyl, who caught fire with a three-under-par round that propelled her into a tie with teammate Ashley Lam atop the leaderboard. The two Griffins went head-to-head in a playoff, where Bleyl prevailed to claim the individual championship.
Reflecting on her performance, Bleyl said: "Going into the final round I honestly didn't really have much of a set mindset. I thought it would be good practice to play under pressure for upcoming tournaments and qualifying rounds. Throughout my round I tried to stay calm and not get ahead with myself with my score. I started off strong in my round, trying to focus on each shot and not the outcome of the hole. … My putter was hot today so I did well with trusting my shots. I knew as long as I hit the green I'd do well."
Overall Scores: Bleyl (+3), Lam (+3), Shin (+5), Hirasuna (+9), Wade (+11), Rawlings (+11), Kato (+18), Hadley (+21), Snow (+24).
The victory marks a major early-season milestone for Westminster, showcasing both the team's depth and the ability to close out a competitive tournament at the top of the leaderboard. Coach Larson reflected, "For the past five years hosting the teams at Glenmoor Golf Club for the Westminster Wasatch Invitational has been a highlight of my year. Today seeing the team take home the win for the first time, and watching 2 outstanding young Griffins compete for the individual title made this the sweetest experience yet!"
Looking Ahead: The Griffins return to competition October 13–14 at the NCAA West Region Preview in Pueblo, Colorado.
