Griffins lead the way in 2023-24 Brechler Award Winners

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its 2023-24 Brechler Award winners on Monday. The RMAC Brechler Awards were established to recognize the league's best team grade-point averages for each of its 22 NCAA-sponsored sports for each academic year.

Westminster led the way among the league's 15 member institutions with an impressive seven Brechler Awards throughout the academic year. The Griffins claimed the top GPA in women's basketball, men's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, men's lacrosse, women's indoor track and field and women's outdoor track and field. Westminster's women's golf program achieved the top GPA in the league with a combined 3.840 GPA.

Colorado School of Mines and Western Colorado tied for second among the conference with four Brechler Awards apiece. The Orediggers claimed the top GPAs in men's soccer, men's swimming and diving, men's indoor track and field and men's outdoor track and field. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers garnered top GPAs for men's basketball, women's cross country, women's soccer and women's swimming and diving.

Regis checked in next with a trio of Brechler Awards in baseball, women's lacrosse and softball. Chadron State women's wrestling, Colorado Mesa men's wrestling, Colorado State University Pueblo football and Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball rounded out the list of Brechler Award winners for the 2023-24 academic year.

The RMAC Brechler Awards are named in honor of Paul W. Brechler, a former RMAC commissioner (1976-90), and his wife Wanda Brechler, who were the inaugural inductees into the RMAC Hall of Fame. Each team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points by the total number of credits for each semester. Team GPAs were submitted to the RMAC office by each institution's compliance administrator.
