COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Westminster College Athletics garnered a league-leading 10 Brechler awards for the 2020-21 academic year as announced by The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) this July. The Griffins have led the RMAC three out of the past four years in total number of Brechler award-winners, which recognizes the conference's top team GPA for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports.
Westminster led the way in team GPA for volleyball (3.73), women's basketball (3.75), men's cross country (3.59), women's cross country (3.83), men's golf (3.88), women's golf (3.77), men's lacrosse (3.34), women's lacrosse (3.68), and women's indoor (3.76) and outdoor (3.76) track. Men's golf, with a team GPA of 3.88, led all teams across all sports in the conference.
The Brechler Award is named in honor of Paul W. Brechler, a former RMAC commissioner (1976-90), and his wife Wanda Brechler, who were the first inductees into the RMAC Hall of Fame. Each team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points by the total number of credits for each semester. Team GPAs were submitted to the RMAC office by each institution's compliance administrator.
