SOUTH JORDAN, UT — The Westminster Griffins Women's Golf team teed off their fall season in impressive fashion, hosting the D2 54 for IX tournament at Glenmoor Golf Club in South Jordan, UT. The tournament showcased some exceptional talent and fierce competition, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead. It also served as a platform to celebrate the 50+ years of Title IX impacting women's in sports. A large banquet was held Sunday evening where these participating athletes were joined by their counterparts competing in the Big Sky Conference 54 for IX tournament at Talons Cove Golf Course.
The standout performer for the Griffins was Tuesday Epperson, who displayed her golf prowess throughout the tournament. Epperson's consistent play and composed performance earned her a well-deserved third-place finish, carding a score of +10 for 54 holes.
The tournament's top honors went to Brady Turnquist from Biola University. Turnquist's stellar performance led her to the victory, finishing with a score of +2 to secure the first-place trophy.
On the team front, Sonoma State showcased its collective strength by finishing in the top spot on the leaderboard with a three day team score of 847. Meanwhile, the host team, Westminster University, posted a respectable final round 308 to securing a 7th-place finish on the leaderboard. This lays a foundation for future improvement as they continue to hone their skills during the remainder of the season.
Alongside Epperson's standout performance, Kyra Sponenburgh and Halle Parkin also performed well, finishing T21 and T27 respectively. Their contributions added depth to the team's performance and showed promise for the season ahead.
"This has been an important and unique event," said Westminster Director of Golf Denise Larson "The Sunday night banquet was exceptional and we all enjoyed coming together to reflect on what Title IX means to women in sports. The teams that have competed this week have been outstanding on and off the course and enjoyed this experience. I'm excited about the way the Griffins played and look forward to our next event."
Golf enthusiasts can expect more exhilarating moments from this talented team as the head next to the big island of Hawaii to play two events Oct 22-28.
