Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The Westminster women's soccer team finished runners-up in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship. The Griffins lost 5-4 in a shootout to CSU Pueblo who earned its first RMAC Tournament Championship.
Five Griffins were named to the All-Tournament team—forward
Cassidy Orr, midfielders
Alexa Maple and
Brynnae Braun, and defenders
Kailee Balthazar-Chang and Sophia Digeronimo. RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year Nicole Genis was named the tournament MVP for the Thunderwolves.
The Griffins were the dominant team outshooting the Thundewolves by 16. The Griffins fired off 25 shots, eight on goal, and seven corner kicks while holding the Thunderwolves to just nine shots, four on goal, and two corner kicks.
How It Happened
Westminster led twice in regulation with goals from Maple and Orr in the first half. Maple put the Griffins ahead, 1-0, in the 10
th minute. Pueblo's Faith Meredith scored 11 minutes later to level the score at one a piece. Orr re-established the lead for the Griffins with a goal in the 30
th minute.
Cara Siegel scored 12 minutes into the second half to level the score at two. Westminster had five more chances but missed the target on four and was blocked on one.
Kelsea Cracroft made two saves for the Griffins, one in the first half and one in the second half of overtime. Genis saved six for the Thunderwolves, two in the first and second halves and two in the first overtime period. Genis saved Westminster's second shooter to take the advantage in the shootout.
A scoreless overtime forced the game to a shootout. Pueblo scored on all five attempts and Genis saved Westminster's second shooter to take the lead leading to the win.
