Box Score SALT LAKE CITY—The Westminster women's soccer team recorded 24 shots in a scoreless tie with Idaho State University. The Griffins scored twice but both goals were called off for offside.
The Griffins thought they had scored in the third minute when
Brynnae Braun rose above her defender to meet Dominic Estrada's free kick from midfield and the right touchline. Braun beat the keeper from 8 yards out heading back across the goal from the far post to the near post.
Braun and Estrada were involved again on another free kick. Estrada's 47-yard free kick skipped past Bengal goalkeeper, McKayla Wetsel, who was frozen to her spot as Braun poked a toe, but missed, at the ball from five yards out.
The Bengal's best chance of the night came from a long free kick redirected in front of Jordyn Roth who controlled and shot from 17 yards out forcing a low diving fingertip save by Westminster goalkeeper
Naomi Kehl.
Aimee Kurfurst had a couple of chances in the second overtime period. A shot low to the right-corner was denied by Wetsel who parried it out for a corner. Kurfurst, driving in from the right top corner of the penalty box, was denied again by Wetsel who was quick to come off her line to mee the ball as Kurfurst shot.
Kurfurst led the Griffins with seven shots and four on goal. Braun was second with four and two on goal.
Kehl made the only save of the game for Westminster.
Wetsel earned the tie for the Bengals with 11 saves. Roth recorded the only shot on goal and Micahaela Didericksen led the Bengals with two shots.
The Griffins will play their third division I opponent on Sunday (Mar. 7) at 1 pm. The Griffins and Weber State Wildcats will play at the Zion's Bank RSL Academy in Herriman, Utah.
