FRANCONIA, N.H.—
Julia Toiviainen climbed the podium for a third-place finish in the women's slalom at the NCAA Skiing Championships. Westminster scored 212 points to finish fifth overall in the alpine events.
The day began with the Griffins tied first, with Montana State University, with 137 points from the Giant Slalom on Wednesday. The men, with only two skiers competing due to injury, scored 24 points and the women scored 51 in today's slalom races.
The University of Denver scored 153 points in the slalom to finish first with 250 points. The University of Vermont scored 148 points today and finished second with 242, and the University of Colorado scored 121 points to finish third with 240.
Toiviainen recorded her eighth podium finish of the season, third in the slalom. She finished third with a two-run time of 1:41.16 after a strong start saw her post the third fastest time of the first run (50.34) and finished third with a two-run time of 1:41.16. Amelia Smart of the University of Denver finished first (1:38.90) and Justine Clement of the University of Vermont finished second (1:40.91).
Hannah Saethereng finished 14
th (1:43.84) and
Lana Zbasnik was 13
th after the first run (52.61) but was unable to finish the second.
Mikkel Solbakken recorded the fastest time of the day (43.15) in the second run to move up seven places, finishing 14
th with a time of 1:31.79.
Joachim Mjelde finished 24
th with a time of 1:54.15.
