GEORGETOWN, Colo. – The Westminster alpine ski teams opened the 2026 season at the Denver Invitational, hosted by the University of Denver, competing in slalom and giant slalom races at Loveland Ski Area and Aspen Highlands. Westminster scored in multiple events across the two-day alpine slate, using the opening meet as an early-season benchmark against RMISA competition.
Meet Breakdown
Men's Slalom
Westminster competed in the opening men's slalom at Loveland Ski Area. While the Griffins did not record team points in the event, multiple skiers completed runs in a deep field. Alejandro Puente Tasi As, Roman Frost, Benjamin Angerer, and Trent Pennington were among Westminster competitors in the race.
Women's Slalom
The Westminster women earned 30 team points in slalom at Loveland. Guro Hestad Vognild led the way with an 18th-place finish (1:31.63), scoring 17 points, while Sarah Zoller followed in 23rd place (1:32.36) for 13 points. Westminster finished eighth as a team in the women's slalom standings.
Day 2
Men's Giant Slalom
In giant slalom at Aspen Highlands, Westminster recorded 30 team points, finishing seventh in the men's event. Trent Pennington paced the Griffins with a 24th-place finish (2:03.30), earning 12 points. Alejandro Puente Tasi As added 11 points with a 26th-place finish (2:03.64), while Roman Frost contributed 7 points in 37th place (2:06.60).
Women's Giant Slalom
The Westminster women delivered their strongest performance of the invitational in giant slalom, totaling 59 team points and finishing fourth in the event. Guro Hestad Vognild posted a third-place finish (2:02.75) to earn 34 points, while Sarah Zoller followed with an eighth-place result (2:03.61) and 25 points.
Big Picture
The Denver Invitational marked the first alpine competition of the 2026 season for Westminster. Across four alpine events, the Griffins totaled 119 alpine points, establishing an early foundation as the winter schedule gets underway.
