Westminster's Puente Tasias Wins RMISA Championship Men's Slalom Title as Vognild Shines in Giant Slalom

Event Breakdown

Day 1 — February 27, 2026 | Soldier Hollow, Midway, Utah & Bridger Bowl, Bozeman, Mont.

Westminster opened the 77th Annual RMISA Championships with competition in the Alpine Slalom events.

In the Women's Slalom at Bridger Bowl, Guro Hestad Vognild led Westminster with a t-14th place finish, posting a combined time of 1:48.95 (Run 1: 52.26, Run 2: 56.69), earning 19 points. Maria Lalire added a 21st-place finish at 1:50.34 (Run 1: 53.81, Run 2: 56.53), earning 14 points. Sarah Zoller rounded out Westminster's women's slalom scorers in 24th with a time of 1:50.96 (Run 1: 54.37, Run 2: 56.59), earning 12 points. Westminster totaled 45 points in the Women's Slalom, placing 6th.

The Men's Slalom was Westminster's signature event of the entire championship. Alejandro Puente Tasias won the race outright, finishing 1st overall with a combined time of 1:43.55 (Run 1: 52.51, Run 2: 51.04) — edging runner-up Filip Wahlqvist of Colorado by just .02 seconds. Puente Tasias also posted the fastest second run among Westminster's scorers, and his first run of 52.51 was 4th fastest in the field. Benjamin Angerer delivered a strong 9th-place finish at 1:44.63 (Run 1: 53.64, Run 2: 50.99), earning 22 points. Trent Pennington added a 12th-place finish at 1:45.50 (Run 1: 54.91, Run 2: 50.59), earning 19 points — his second run of 50.59 was the fastest second run in the entire field. Roman Frost also competed, finishing 28th at 1:49.55 (Run 1: 53.73, Run 2: 55.82). Westminster totaled 81 points in the Men's Slalom, placing 2nd behind only Utah (94).

Westminster closed Day 1 with 126 total points, sitting 6th in the overall standings after the first day of competition.


Day 2 — February 28, 2026 | Soldier Hollow, Midway, Utah & Bridger Bowl, Bozeman, Mont.

In the Women's Giant Slalom at Bridger Bowl, Guro Hestad Vognild again led Westminster, finishing 7th overall with a combined time of 1:37.02 (Run 1: 48.79, Run 2: 48.23), earning 25 points. Sarah Zoller placed 24th at 1:40.22 (Run 1: 50.02, Run 2: 50.20), earning 13 points. Maria Lalire finished 28th at 1:42.60 (Run 1: 51.52, Run 2: 51.08), earning 10 points. Westminster totaled 48 points in the Women's GS, placing 6th.

The Men's Giant Slalom was a difficult day for Westminster. Trent Pennington was the lone Griffin finisher, placing 26th with a combined time of 1:37.41 (Run 1: 48.94, Run 2: 48.47), earning 12 points. Benjamin Angerer and Roman Frost did not start the second run, while Alejandro Puente Tasias was disqualified in the second run after posting a first run time of 48.92. Westminster totaled 12 points in the Men's GS, placing 8th.
