PARK CITY, Utah—The Griffins are the alpine point leaders after the conclusion of the giant slalom on the first day of the RMISA Championships at the Park City Ski Resort. The women's team nearly swept the podium to score 105 points and the men scored 60 points for a two-point lead over the University of Colorado.
Hannah Saethereng recorded her first season win and her third podium finish. She posted the fastest time in the second run (58.71) to improve from sixth to first (1:57.01). Julia Toiviainen moved up from fifth to third (1:58.21) and Lana Zbasnik finished fourth (1:58.28).
Denise Dingsleder moved up nine places to finish 22
nd (1:59.76) and Evelina Fredricsson finished 19
th (1:59.99).
Mikkel Solbakken,
Joachim Mjelde and
Francesco Galdiolo finished within five places of each other. Solbakken cracked the top-10 with a ninth-place finish for the men (1:55.24), Mjelde finished 12
th (1:56.04) and Galdiolo came in 14
th (1:56.30).
Francesco Gori finished 17
th (1:56.51) to round out Westminster's top-20 finishers.
Alex Coltier and
Martin Arene tied 24
th (1:57.07) and Gustav Dalmalm came in 31
st (1:58.23).
The Championships will continue tomorrow with the slalom.
