PARK CITY, Utah—
Joachim Mjelde and
Mikkel Solbakken finished top-five in the giant slalom opening race of the RMISA Invitational at the Park City Ski Resort.
Mjelde recorded his first career podium. Tobias Kogler, of the University of Denver, finished first and Louis Muhlen-Schulte, of Montana State, finished third to join him on the podium.
The second race was postponed as conditions worsened and became too dangerous to continue, with hopes of rescheduling before the RMISA Championships that begin Feb. 18 with the men's and women's slalom.
Mjelde posted the third fastest time of the second run (1:00.04) to move up four spots into second. He recorded a final time of 2:00.80.
Solbakken posted the third fastest time in the first run (58.88) and barely missed out on the podium finishing .05 second back from third with a time of 2:00.91.
Martin Arene rounded out the top-20 with a time of 2:04.77.
Alex Coltier finished 32
nd (2:05.80) and
Dalmalm Gustav came in 24
th (2:07.96)
The men lead by one, 81 to 82, over Montana State. Combined with the women's points total from yesterday, the Griffins are leading with a score of 293, 82 points ahead of Montana State in second and 97.5 ahead of Utah in third.
