SALT LAKE CITY - Fifth-seeded Westminster women's soccer (RV) (10-5-2) will look for its first-ever NCAA Tournament win on Friday afternoon as it takes on Angelo State (15-4-2) at 12 p.m. (MDT) in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championships on the campus of Dallas Baptist University.
Game Info:
- The winner of Friday's first-round matchup will advance to the second round to play South Central Region hosts, Dallas Baptist Univ., on Sunday at 12 p.m. (MDT). DBU earns a first-round bye as the No. 1 out of the South Central Region.
- This weekend's South Central Region Tournament will be hosted on the campus of Dallas Baptist University and games will be played at
Patriot Soccer Field. A campus map and full visitor's guide can be found

About the Griffins:
- This weekend's road trip will mark the
second appearance in the NCAA Tournament for Westminster and its first since
qualifying in its first year eligible for postseason play back in 2018. Westminster fell 1-0 in its first-ever NCAA Tournament match against Dallas Baptist in the 2018 first round.
- Westminster began the season with
three-straight shutout wins and finished the regular season with
five-straight wins that included
four clean sheets.
- In the
RMAC Women's Soccer Tournament quarterfinal, the Griffins equalized twice but ultimately
fell to No. 20 Colorado School of Mines on
penalty kicks (3-0) back on
Nov. 7.
- Westminster has benefited from late game heroics with
goals in the final ten minutes of regulation in its last two matches.
Alexa Maple scored in 83rd minute to even the game at 1-1 and set up Cassidy's Orr's golden-goal winner
vs. Colorado Mesa. Sage Stott then
scored in the 84th minute against Colorado School of Mines to send the Griffins' RMAC quarterfinal match to extra time.
- The Griffins battled through close games all season en route to a
third 10-win season in four years (exception was Spring 2021 which was shortened due to COVID-19), going
5-2-5 in games decided by one goal or less.
- Westminster found offense from
12 different goal scorers on the season and were
led by senior midfielder Alexa Maple (8).
- Maple scored
multiple long-range goals from outside the 18-yard-box and
two goals directly off of corner kicks. She also
led the Griffins with five assists.

- After going
0-1-4 in its first
five overtime matches, Cassidy Orr and
Alexa Maple combined to give Westminster its first overtime winner as
Orr struck the net on an assist from Maple in the second minute of extra time back on
Nov. 3 to help
Westminster beat Colorado Mesa, 2-1 at home.
- The Griffins begin the week ranked
No. 24 in the nation in goals-against average (.604) and
No. 30 in save percentage (.847). Goalkeeper
Kelsea Cracroft ranks No. 32 in all of Division II in
goals against average (.647).
- On the conference season, Westminster tied for the
fewest goals allowed in the
RMAC (12), had the
second-lowest goals against average (.67), and the
second-best save percentage (.846) in the conference.
About the Rams:
- Angelo State (15-4-2) heads into the weekend as the Lone Star Conference Tournament Champions after taking out fifth-ranked Dallas Baptist, 1-0, on Sunday.
- The Rams went ahead in Sunday's conference championship on a sixth-minute own goal from Dallas Baptist and went on to secure a ninth-straight shutout in the LSC Tournament and a second-straight conference tournament title.
- ASU is led in scoring by fifth-year midfielder Avery McNeme (8) who also leads the team with nine assists.
- Angelo State ranks top-30 in the nation in goals scored (44), assists (35), and goals against average (.644) and have gone three-straight matches without allowing a goal.
- The Rams won their first five games of the season culminating with a 7-0 win over RMAC opponent N.M. Highlands.
- Each of ASU's four losses have come by just a single goal.
- Angelo State begins the week with a 141-62 advantage in shots on goal over its opponents as it has built a +30 goal differential through 21 matches.

The winner of Westminster vs. Angelo State will play fifth-ranked and top-seeded Dallas Baptist (17-3, 12-1 LSC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16.
The two finalists in each subregion will advance to third and quarterfinal-round competition to be played Thursday, Dec. 2 or Friday, Dec. 3 and Saturday, Dec. 4 or Sunday, Dec. 5.
