SALT LAKE CITY, Utah--Westminster's women's soccer team played Idaho State in an early exhibition match. Jayde Jones scored the game winner in the 67th as the home side defeated the visitors, 4-3.
The Griffins were the more offensive teams during the first half out shooting the Bengals 7-3.
Aimee Kurfurst opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Westminster led 2-1 at the half after Bella Riche's 41st minute goal.
Riche drove into the penalty box after controlling a long pass from Jones and beat the keeper at the near post for her second goal of the game. Idaho State's Diderickson scored two goals in seven minutes to level the game, 3-3.
The match didn't remain tied for very long. Just short of four minutes, Jones shot over the keeper to the far-post for the game-winner.
Goalkeeper
Preslee Sudbury made three of her four saves in the final quarter of the game as the Bengals increased the pressure and out shot the Griffins 7-1.
Westminster took 16 shots with 11 on goal and Idaho State took 14 with seven on goal.
Megumi Takushi assisted Riche on the game's opening goal. Jones scored teh game winner and assisted Riche on her second goal for a brace.
The Griffins will play scrimmages against Western Wyoming Community College and Snow College on August 23 and 28 respectively. The first countable games are scheduled at home for September 5 against Texas A&M Commerce and September 7 against Montana State University Billings.
