HERMISTON, Ore.--The Westminster men's and women's outdoor track and field teams were schedule to compete at the Sacramento State Invitational but made a change, due to weather, and traveled to Oregon and competed in the Eastern Oregon University Team Challenge.
Westminster competed with student-athletes from Central Washington, College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon, Northwest Nazarene, Corban, Oregon Tech, Southern Oregon and Treasure Valley.  Five Griffins finished third or higher in their events helping the teams to a fifth place finish overall in both men's and women's.
The women's team set top ten program records in eight events, three for the first time in Westminster history. Jordan Shelby and
Kylie Harrison competed in the hammer throw,
Christine Sheehan, Rosemary Elliot and
Mara Kushner ran the 10,000 meter, and
Meghann Clare ran the 3000 steeplechase for the first time. Jordan finished first with a throw of 48.16 m and Harrison threw for 11.89 m. Sheehan (42:52.82), Elliot (42.59.42) and Kushner (46:32.15) finished fifth through seventh. Clare finished fourth in 15:31.05.
Katie Scott finished second in the 800 meter and 1500 meter. Her 800 m finish in 2:28.92 ranks 10th and her 1500 m finish in 5:06.56 ranks ninth.Â
Molly Dayley finished the 400 meter hurdles in 1:16.34 and set the second fastest time in the program. Jordan set a new record in the shot put, throwing for 12.38 m and finishing first. Harrison's throw of 10.26 m ranks fourth all-time. Jordan finished third with a throw of 35.72 m which ranks second all-time.
The men competed in the hammer throw, 10,000 meter and 3000 meter steeplechase for the first time and set top-ten finishes in five events.Â
DJ Matthews finished second in the 10,000 meter in 32:44.21 and
Eric Mellmer finished in 34:21.89.Â
Skyler Hobbs finished the steeplechase in 10:452.40,
Payton Olsen finished in 11:20.10, and
Luke Cobabe finished ninth in 11:57.26, finishing third through fifth respectively.Â
Blake Katonafinished 17th and threw for 32.61 m in the hammer throw.
Katona set the seventh best throw in the shot put with a throw of 10.37 m. Alex Brown jumped ofr 5.31 m and tied the seventh best of all-time in the long jump.Â
Jamin Peacock ran the 100 m in 11.75 which ranks 10th all-time.
Aidan Urban ran the 800 m in 2:01.58 and finished firrst.
Westminster's next meet is on March 30 at Utah Valley University at the Hal Wing Track and Field.
