Griffins Shatter All Conditions Records, Men's 4x100 Relay Sets New Record

3/29/2026 4:56:00 PM

Orem, UT - The Westminster Griffins delivered a strong and competitive showing at the Utah Valley Collegiate Invitational in Orem, highlighted by exceptional performances on the men's sprint side and a historic improvement in the 4x100-meter relay. The quartet of Orion Patten, Zac LeVin, Jeremy Alba, and Dario Garcia Sanchez recorded a time of 41.92, breaking their own school record set just one week prior by an impressive 0.7 seconds. Although several sprint marks were aided by wind conditions above the legal limit, the performances nonetheless represented significant personal bests and multiple school-record caliber efforts under all conditions.

Westminster's men's sprint group demonstrated both depth and high-level performance throughout the meet. Jeremy Alba (10.89) and Orion Patten (11.01) led the way in the 100 meters, while Dario Garcia Sanchez posted a standout 21.61 in the 200 meters. He was closely followed by Zac LeVin (22.01), Patten (22.31), Alba (22.45), and Sebastian Moon (22.56), illustrating the team's strength across the event. Moon also contributed in the 400 meters with a time of 50.65, while the distance group saw solid efforts from Colin Morgan (2:00.29) and Diego Escalante (2:01.43) in the 800 meters. Jacob Fornander added a strong performance in the steeplechase, and the field events were led by Samuel Clemments and Elliot Payne in the javelin, with Payne also competing in the long jump and Ben Henriquez in the shot put.

On the women's side, Johanna Mapson led the sprint group with times of 12.61 in the 100 meters and 26.32 in the 200 meters. Mia McKay and Kanoe Haneberg added valuable performances across sprint and hurdle events, with McKay also competing in the 400-meter hurdles. The distance group was paced by Eileen O'Connor in the 1500 meters and Angela Martin Rubin in the 800 meters. In the field events, Haneberg delivered a standout performance with a third-place finish in the triple jump (10.92m), while Teyvia Sidberry followed with a fourth-place mark and contributed across multiple events. With continued progress across the roster, the Griffins now turn their focus to the Triton Invitational next weekend in La Jolla, where they will aim to build on their early-season momentum against another strong field of competition.
