OGDEN -- The track and field team began its indoor season competing in the Winter Open, hosted by Weber State University. Throwing events were held on Friday, at the Weber County Fairgrounds Riding Arena, and running and jumping events were held on Saturday, at the Stromberg Arena in Swenson Gym.
30 Westminster student-athletes competed in nine events: shot put, long jump, high jump, 55 meter dash, 55 meter hurdle, 200 meter dash, 4x400 meter relay, 800 meter run, mile run, and 3000 meter run. The Griffins had 14 times/marks that rank in the top-10 in Westminster history.
Last year at this event, Lasana Trawally set a new school record in the 55 meter dash and then beat that record one month later. Trawally came close to breaking his own record for again, finishing with a time of 6.72 seconds, one second slower than the current record. The time ranks as the second-fastest time in school history.
Mitchell Sims and Jamin Peacock each had times that rank in the top-10 of Westminster History. Sims finished the race in 6.90, tied as the fifth-fastest time in program history. Peacock finished the race in 6.93 seconds and holds the seventh-fastest time in school history.
William Carrington finished third overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.71 seconds. His time is the ninth-fastest in team history. Carrington also ran in the 4x400 meter relay with Sims, Tony Nickerson and Aidan Urban. The team finished third at the meet and set the sixth-fastest time in Westminster history.
Paul Matthews set the fourth-fastest time in program history with a time of 4:39.80.
Raymond Bertheaud set a top 10 record in the long jump. Bertheaud jumped 4.30 meters, ranking sixth longest in school history.
Blake Katona's throw of 10.98 meters, in the shot put, is the 10th longest in program history.
Allison Wright finished with two top 10 marks. Wright ran the 55 meter dash in 7.67 seconds and setting the sixth-fastest time in team history. She finished the 200 meter dash in 26.63 seconds recording the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Katie Valdez recorded a time of 7.98 seconds, the 10th fastest in school history.Rosemary Elliot finished the 3000 meter run in 11:37.54 and ranks 9th in Westminster History.
Naena Bland jumped 1.52 meters and is tied sixth in team history.
