GOLDEN, Colo. – The Westminster women's soccer team saw its unbeaten start to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play come to an end with a 3-0 loss at No. 7 Colorado School of Mines on Friday evening.
Westminster (6-2-2, 3-1-2 RMAC) fell behind in the 14th minute when Laya Rybicki finished her first goal of the season on a build up by Brooke Stoermer and Acacia Ortiz for Colorado Mines (10-1, 5-1).
The home side would extend the lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute as Emily Townsend scored her fifth goal of the season by heading in a corner kick delivered by Emily Garnier. The final tally came in the 44th minute as Garnier once again served a corner that ended with a goal by Jaclyn Knott.
The Griffins were able to apply more pressure in the second half as they got five of their seven total shots after the intermission. They put two of those shots on goal and took three corners. Mines finished with 10 shots – six on goal – and attempted 10 corner kicks.
Madison Roemer led Westminster with three shots and had one of the team's two shots on goal.
Tiana Cerciello recorded the other on one of her two attempts.
Breanna Empey suffered her second loss of the year in goal for the Griffins with three saves.
Westminster will look to get back in the win column on Sunday when they face Colorado Christian. Opening kick in Lakewood, Colo. is scheduled for noon.
