Women’s Soccer Home for Three Matches This Week

The Westminster women's soccer team will return to Dumke Field this week for three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. The Griffins will be looking to snap a three-game losing skid when they begin play against Colorado Mesa on Wednesday at 5 p.m. They will then welcome MSU Denver to town on Friday at 2:30 p.m. before hosting Regis on Sunday at noon.

ABOUT WESTMINSTER
Westminster begins this busy week of action at 4-3 overall this season and 1-3 in RMAC action. They have three points in the conference standings and are currently tied for 10th-place. The Griffins are 1-1 at home this season and 3-0 when scoring at least two goals in a game.
 
The Griffins are averaging 1.29 goals per game and they rank fifth in the RMAC in that category. They take 10.7 shots per game with 41.3 percent of them on goal. The team has taken 25 corner kicks with three assists and been called offsides four times.
 
Defensively, Westminster ranks tied for fourth in the conference by allowing only seven goals this season. They are sixth in the league with a 0.98 goals-against-average. The opposition is taking 8.4 shots per game and they put 47.5 percent of them on target. Griffin keepers have made 21 saves with a .750 save percentage.
 
Senior Rylei North leads the RMAC is goals (5), goals per game (0.71), and points per game (1.43). She is also tied for tops in the conference with 10 points and three game-winning-goals. Madison Roemer is second on the team with three points, recording one goal and one assist. Madeline Orr, McKell Kellogg, and Megan Molumby have also scored one goal apiece this season. Korral Koehler and Alicia May each have tallied one assist.
 
Abi Yanke has made six starts in goal this season and she ranks eighth in the RMAC with her 0.88 GAA. Yanks is 4-2 with one shutout this season and she had made 17 saves and posted a .773 save percentage. Breanna Empey made her first career start at Fort Lewis on Sunday. For the year, Empey has a 1.33 GAA and .667 save percentage with four saves.
 
LOOKING BACK
Westminster dropped a pair of conference road games last weekend. They lost 2-1 at Adams State on Sept. 25 with North scoring her fifth goal of the season and Yanke making three saves. ASU scored the game-winner in the 77th minute.
 
The Griffins then fell 2-1 at Fort Lewis on Sept. 27. After FLC took the lead in the 12th minute, McKell Kellogg notched her first career goal just 31 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. The home side scored the game-winner in the 54th minute to hand the Griffins a third consecutive loss.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
• Colorado Mesa – The Mavericks come to SLC at 1-6-1 overall this season and 1-3 in RMAC action. They were also swept by Fort Lewis and Adams State last weekend and they are 0-4 in road games this season. CMU averages 0.38 goals per game with a 1.44 GAA. Ashley Wallace leads the team with two goals.
 
Westminster and Colorado Mesa will meet for the first time on Wednesday.
 
• MSU Denver – The Roadrunners begin the week at 4-2-2 overall and at 1-1-2 in RMAC action. They are unbeaten in three straight matches (1-0-2) with a season record of 0-2-1 in road games. MSU Denver is scoring 1.25 goals per contest and they lead the RMAC with a 0.47 GAA. Four Roadrunners have a team-best two goals and Breanna Flores has made a team-leading 43 saves.
 
Friday's game will mark the first-ever meeting between Westminster and MSU Denver.
 
• Regis – The Rangers start the week at 5-3 overall and 2-2 in RMAC play. They split a pair of home games last week and have gone 2-1 in road games this season. Regis leads the RMAC by scoring 2.50 goals per game and they have a GAA of 1.45. Sid Otto leads all Rangers with four goals while Brianna Randall has made 18 saves in goal.
 
The Griffins and Rangers will meet for the first time on Sunday.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
The Griffins have been stellar on the home turf of Dumke Field in the history of the program. The team is 50-14-6 (.757) at home all-time and they posted a 16-game unbeaten streak from August 2011 through September 2012. They had gone 11 straight games at Dumke Field without a loss before losing to Colorado Mines on Sept. 20. During that run they had outscored the opposition 28-6 with nine wins and five shutouts.
 
ALL-TIME SCORING LEADER
Rylei North has continued where she left off from last season. After scoring a school record 16 goals in 2014, North has already scored five times this season. She enters the week as the Westminster career leader with 31 goals and 65 points. North is the only player in school history with two 10-goal seasons and she also holds the school record with 11 game-winning goals, 147 shots, and 93 shots on goal. Her two goals at Chaminade marked the eighth multi-goal game of her career.
 
STARTER IN CAGE
Abi Yanke has earned four wins in goal already this season and she sits second in school history with 27 career victories. The senior is eighth in the RMAC with her 0.88 goals-against-average and she is the Westminster all-time leader with a 0.72 career GAA. Yanke had her string of 41 consecutive starts in goal snapped on Sunday. During this starts, the team went 27-9-5. Yanke is also second in school history with 17 shutouts and her 111 saves are third-most in team history.
 
ANCHROING THE DEFENSE
The duo of Megan Molumby and Maddie Lewis are the anchors of a Westminster backline that contributes to a team GAA of 0.98. Lewis never missed a game in her Westminster career, playing is 42 straight with 40 consecutive starts. Molumby has started the past 20 games and is 13th all-time in games played and seventh with 5,160 minutes played. The pair have been on the field for 96.1 percent of total minutes played by the team this season.
 
UP NEXT
Following this week's three home games, Westminster will spend the next two weeks on the road to play four games. That stretch begins with games at Western State Colorado on Oct. 9 and then at UC Colorado Springs on Oct. 11.
