RED RIVER, N.M. – The Westminster alpine ski team completed a week of competition in two states with the women taking the alpine title at the Jade Enterprises UNM Invitational. The team finished second overall in the alpine events in New Mexico and they notched a fifth-place alpine finish at the University of Colorado Invitational earlier in the week.

The Westminster women got off to a fast start at the UNM event by scoring 97 points to win the Slalom No. 1 race on Jan. 30.
Anna Goodman finished second in the race after posting the second-fastest time of the first run.
Sofija Novoselic placed fourth overall and she recorded the second-best time of the second run.
Ann-Kathrin Breuning finished fifth to round out the scoring for the Griffins.

The Griffins would then sweep the weekend's races by winning the Slalom No. 2 race on Jan. 31. They scored 100 points in the race for a weekend total of 197. Goodman again led the way for Westminster by finishing second in 1:40.94. Breuning went 1:41.12 to place third while
Tonje Sekse place fifth in 1:41.41.

On the men's side, the Griffins would finish third overall in alpine events after scoring 131 points during the two slalom races. They were second during the Slalom No. 1 race with 80 points as
Giulio Bosca anchored the team by posting a time of 1:31.59 to place third.
Tim Lindgren was fifth after going 1:31.67 during his two runs with
David Herzog rounding out the scoring for the Griffins in 17th at 1:33.01.

Westminster scored 51 points in Slalom No. 2 to place sixth on the day. Lindgren led the team in fourth by completing two trips down the hill in 1:35.15. Herzog finished his runs in 1:36.74 to place 14th with no other Griffin completing two runs on the day.

The Griffins began the week in Eldora, Colo. for the Colorado Invitational where they earned a fifth-place finish in the alpine events. The women were fifth at the race with 123 points while the men scored 69.5 points to place seventh.

The men had a tough start to the Colorado race by failing to score any points in the Slalom race on Jan. 25. Four of the five entrants from Westminster failed to complete the first run with
Jonas Nyberg not completing his second run. The men's team bounced back in the Giant Slalom on Jan. 26 and finished third by scoring 69.5 points.

Bosca led the team in that race by completing two runs in 2:03.50 to tie for the third position.
Michael Bansmer would finish 10th with his time of 2:03.77 and Nyberg completed the scoring in 16th by going 2:04.45 in two runs.

Westminster's women scored 123 points in the two races to place fifth overall in the alpine events. They opened the week with 68 points to place fourth in the Slalom and then picked up 55 points to tie for fourth in the Giant Slalom.

Goodman claimed a second-place result in the Slalom by completing two runs in 1:47.68. Breuning finished fourth at 1:49.17 to complete the scoring for the team. Four other Griffins failed to complete two runs on the day.

Sekse would lead the women in the Giant Slalom by placing ninth overall after finishing her two runs in 2:06.62. Breuning scored 16 points by placing 16th overall at 2:07.40 and Novoselic was 18th at 2:07.65 for 14 points.

Bosca and Sekse each recorded third-place finishes in the Giant Slalom RMISA Qualifier on Jan. 27 in Colo. Lindgren also finished fifth on the men's side and Breuning was eighth on the women's side.

Westminster returns to the hill on Feb. 25 for the Alaska Anchorage Invitational at the Aleyska Resort. They will compete in the Giant Slalom on that first day and then the Slalom on Feb. 26. The RMISA Championships happen at the same resort with a Giant Slalom on Feb. 27 and Slalom on Feb. 28.
