WINTER PARK, Colo. – The Westminster College alpine ski team finished fifth over the weekend at the Spencer James Nelson Memorial at Winter Park Resort. The Westminster men finished in first place with 177 points between the Slalom and Giant Slalom races, and the Griffin team scored 173 points to claim the Giant Slalom crown.
The Griffin men got off to a strong start on Saturday by scoring 75 points in the Slalom race to finish second.
Tim Lindgren tallied 37 of those points by finishing second in the race with a time of 1:35.64 during his two runs.
David Herzog posted a time of 1:37.20 to finish ninth and score 22 points. Nikolai Narvetad scored 16 points by placing 17th with a time of 1:38.08.
Westminster would then dominate the Giant Slalom races on Sunday. Lindgren used a first-run time of 57.34 seconds to carry him to a total time of 1:58.54 and a first-place finish in the race. Herzog finished third in the race behind a 1:59.76 time that featured a second run of 1:00.34 – the fastest among all racers.
Jonas Nyberg placed fifth in the race with is two-run time of 2:00.27. The men finished with 102 points in the Giant Slalom and won the race by 25 points over the New Mexico in second.
The Westminster women would also have a strong showing during Sunday's Giant Slalom.
Tonje Sekse finished in second place with her time of 2:09.16 during her two runs. She scored 37 points and had the second-fastest time of the opening run at 1:03.26.
Marie Aufrere used her combined time of 2:09.37 to finish third in the race and score 34 points for the team. The 71 total points earned the Griffins a fourth-place finish in the race.
Lindgren was the top-scoring individual at the event on the men's side. His 77 total points in the two races were six more than runner-up Sebastion Brigovic of Denver.
