PARK CITY, Utah – The Westminster College alpine ski team opened the 2014 season on Saturday with the first day of the Pat Miller Invitational hosted by the University of Utah. The event featured the men racing the Giant Slalom with the women running the Slalom.
The Westminster men scored 66 points and sit in fourth position after day one.
Tim Lindgren led the Griffins with a second-place finish after his two runs were completed in a time of 1:58.37 to score 37 points.
Jonas Nyberg posted a time of 1:59.06 to place sixth and score the team 29 points. Benoit Jagot failed to complete his first run.
The Griffin women sit tied for seventh after the first day of events.
Tonje Sekse won the Women's Slalom race to score 40 points for the team. Sekse finished her two runs with a combined time of 1:47.62, winning by .01 seconds. After posting the second-fastest time in the first run (51.06), she went 56.56 in the second run to lead all skiers.
Marie Aufrere and
Laurie Moncenix failed to complete their second runs.
The event will conclude on Sunday with the men taking to the Slalom and the women competing in the Giant Slalom. The action from Park City Mountain Resort begins at 9:00 a.m. MST.
