Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's soccer team used a goal from
Nicole Carter in the 88th minute to secure a 1-0 victory over William Jessup (Calif.) on Thursday evening at Dumke Field.
After neither team could generate much offensively during the opening half, Westminster (6-5) turned up the pressure in the second half. While they had a 7-4 advantage in shots after the break the Griffins weren't getting a lot of quality chances.
That changed in the 88th minute when
Jessica Harris played a ball into the penalty area where Carter took one touch and then put her shot inside the far post for the Griffins third straight victory. It was the fourth goal of the season for Carter and second game-winner in the past three games.
Westminster finished the game with nine shots and they were able to get five of them on goal. They limited William Jessup (5-4) to just six shots with only the first shot of the game being on frame. The Griffins attempted two corner kicks and were whistled for eight fouls.
Abi Yanke earned her third straight shutout victory in goal. The sophomore has now gone 281 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.
The Griffins will look to continue this win streak on Sunday when they welcome 21st-ranked Cal State San Marcos to Dumke Field. The game will begin at 10 a.m. and be carried live on Griffins TV.
