Westminster Back at Dumke to Host Rocky on Sunday

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's soccer team returns to Dumke Field for the final two games of the regular season. The first of those two games comes on Sunday when Rocky Mountain (Mont.) visits for a 10 a.m. MDT kickoff.

The game will be carried live on Griffins TV and Comcast 6 in northern Utah. There will also be live stats available for the game. Links for all of the live features can be found in the calendar section of WestminsterGriffins.com.

GRIFFIN NOTEBOOK
Westminster returns home at 7-6-2 on the season and 2-0-2 in Frontier Conference games. The Griffins are 4-1-2 over the past seven games after a 3-5 start to the season. They have a 6-2 mark at Dumke Field in 2013 and they have won five of the last six home contests.

The Griffins offense is averaging 1.53 goals per game while adding an assist on 12 of their 23 goals. Over the past seven games they are scoring 1.86 goals per game with three multiple-goal games. Westminster averages 13.9 shots per games with 54.8 percent of them on goal.

Westminster opponents have scored 12 goals with six assists for an average of 0.80 goals per game. The Griffins have surrendered nine of those goals after halftime with 50 of the 98 shot attempts coming after intermission. Westminster goalies have recorded 41 saves with a .774 save percentage.

AGAINST THE OPPOSITION
Rocky Mountain holds a 9-4-2 edge in the all-time series with Westminster after the team played to a 1-1 draw in Billings on Oct. 6. The Griffins hold a 3-2-1 edge at Dumke Field and are 1-0-1 in the past two meetings in Salt Lake City. Both ties in the series have come in the past three meetings.

LOOKING BACK
Westminster used a goal from Nicole Carter in the 88th minute to claim a 1-1 draw at Carroll (Mont.) last Friday. The Griffins had a 23-11 edge in shot attempts with a season-high 16 shots on goal in the game. Abi Yanke made five saves to preserve to draw in goal for the Griffins.

Behind a goal from Carter in the 27th minute and an own goal in the 38th minute, Westminster took a 2-0 win at Great Falls (Mont.) on Saturday. It was the third game-winner of the season for Carter and it helped keep the Griffins perfect  in 14 all-time meetings with Great Falls.

GET THEM FIRST & EARLY
In 13 of the 15 games that Westminster has played this season the team that scored first went on to win. The only exceptions are the two times the team has earned a tie this season. Westminster is 7-0 when they score first and 0-6-2 when the opponent scores first. The Griffins are also 4-0 when leading at halftime and 6-1 when leading or tied at the 75-minute mark.

For the season, Westminster has outscored the opposition 12-3 during the first half of games. They also have a 98-48 edge in first half shots and 31-21 advantage in first half corner kicks.

CARTER GETTING HOT
After scoring only one goal through the first eight games of the year, Nicole Carter has come on with five goals in the past seven contests. She leads the team with six goals and is tops in the conference with three game-winning goals. The Griffins are 5-0-1 in games that Carter scores. She has taken 25 shots with 16 on goal and she scores on 24 percent of her shot attempts.

POINTS FROM TUCKER
Senior Lexi Tucker leads the team with four assists while also scoring three goals for 10 points. The team is 3-0 in games that Tucker scores and also 2-0 when she records an assist. Tucker has taken a team-best 36 shots during the year with 21 of them on goal. She has tallied two game-winners on the season.

THREE FOR HARRIS
Senior Jessica Harris is one of the three on the squad with at least three goals. She opened the year with a double in the season-opener against Jamestown and then snapped a 190-minute scoring drought by the Griffins when she scored at St. Francis (Ill.). Harris entered the season with four career goals and only one since the start of the 2011 campaign. She has matched her career high of three goals set during her freshman campaign on 2010.

MINER ANCHORS THE MIDFIELD
Junior Miranda Miner is the anchor of the Griffin midfield. After leading the team with 1,640 minutes played in 2012, Miner has played a team-high 1,282 minutes this season. She has yet to miss a game during her three seasons as a Griffin, appearing in all 53 games the team has played with 49 starts. After scoring her first career goal against Great Falls in Sept., Miner scored at Rocky Mountain to earn the team a 1-1 draw.

YANKE COMING ON STRONG
After sitting out the first eight game of the season, Abi Yanke has started the past eight games in goal going 4-2-2 with four shutouts. She has been named the Frontier's Defensive Player of the Week three times and has a 0.59 goals-against-average and 24 saves this season. Yanke had a stretch of 356 minutes without allowing a goal snapped in the loss to Cal State San Marcos.
