SALT LAKE CITY – The 12th-ranked Westminster men's lacrosse team easily defeated Wyoming 20-1 on Saturday afternoon on Duke Field.
Westminster improves to 5-4 overall on the season and are a perfect 3-0 all-time against Wyoming. The Cowboys falls to 1-4 on the season.
Westminster jumped out of the gate quickly as
Andy Butterfield scored just 1:42 into the contest. The Griffins would score two first 13 goals of the contest before Peter McCall would strike for Wyoming with a mad advantage at the 2:27 mark of the second quarter. The Griffins played more of a possession game in the second half to control the victory.
Westminster held an advantage in every statistical category. They outshot the visitors 52-4 and won 19-of-25 faceoffs. The Griffins also collected 50 ground balls to just 20 by Wyoming. Westminster finished 2-of-5 with the man advantage while Wyoming was 1-of-3.
Cole Christensen and
Gian Sexsmith finished with four goals apiece for Westminster.
Pace Cranney and
Jake Arthur added two goals each. Six other Griffins found the back of the net one time apiece with
Josh Condas adding four assists for a game high five points.
Dallas McLellan made one save in his one period of action. Chris Burkle played the second quarter with
Jake Boudreau played the second half making one save.
Peter McCall scored the lone goal of the game for Wyoming. Patrick Flaherty and John Pitta collected three ground balls apiece.
Westminster will return to action on Friday, April 1 when they play Montana Sate in Bozeman, Mont.
