SALT LAKE CITY – For the second consecutive day
Dennis Sellis was the hero for the Westminster men's soccer team. On Saturday, Sellis scored two second half goals to lead Westminster to a 2-1 win over Olivet Nazarene on Dumke Field. The Griffins have now won two straight and are 3-1 on the season.
Billy Jackson scored in the 14th minute to out Olivet Nazarene (1-1-1) ahead 1-0. Sellis would strike with the equalizer in the 59th minute when he headed home a cross from
Jonathan Parker to make the score 1-1. Sellis would tally his second game winner is as many games just two minutes later when he put a
Wilson Larson through ball inside the near post from just inside the box.
Westminster finished the evening with a 16-5 advantage in shots attempted. The first Griffin goal came on the 11th shot of the night and at that point they held an 11-1 shot cushion. The game was fairly physical with 17 total fouls and five yellow cards being issued. ONU did finish with a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Sellis along with
Nic Duncan and
Wilson Larson recorded four shots apiece with Sellis getting three of those on frame. Four other Griffins posted one shot with
Gary Gonzalez and
Jordan Conroy getting their attempts on goal.
Nathan Young earned his first career win between the pipes by making two saves.
Westminster returns to Dumke Field on Friday, September 10 when they host Point Loma Nazarene for the first of three game sin three days. Kickoff for that game is slated for 4:30 p.m.
