SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Westminster men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-11 decision against Dominican University on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Baggataway Tournament. Westminster went 0-2 at the tournament, facing two NCAA D2 opponents and is now 9-5 on the season.
Dominican took advantage of the Griffins playing their second game is as many days and jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter. They would eventually push the lead to 11-5 midway through the second half before the Griffins started a rally.
Jimmy Nguyen scored with 11:43 remaining in the third to cap a 4-1 run and cut the deficit to just 12-9. Dominican would close the game with a 5-2 run to take the victory.
Westminster managed just 23 shots in the game to 40 by the host team. Westminster won 15-of-27 faceoffs and claimed 37 ground balls in the game. They committed 17 turnovers and went 0-of-5 with a man advantage.
Jake Arthur, Josh COndas, and
Gian Sexsmith each scored two goals apiece to lead the Griffins. Sexsmith added one assist to finish with a team leading three points.
Marshall Serzen won 8-of-15 faceoffs while collecting four ground balls.
Matt Lambourne also gathered four ground balls.
Jake Boudreau took the loss between the pipes while recording six saves.
Westminster will complete the regular season with two road games at Fort Lewis and Northern Arizona next weekend. They open in Durango, Colorado on Saturday, April 24 and complete the trip on Sunday, April 25 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
