DRAPER, Utah – The Westminster men's lacrosse team defeated in-state rival Utah State 15-10 in the opening game of the Laxapalooza on Saturday afternoon. Westminster improves to 4-0 all-time against the Aggies with a fourth straight win overall. They are now 9-3 on the season.
The two teams played to an even 6-6 tie in the opening half, but Westminster scored five straight third period goals to open up an 11-6 advantage.
Andrew Gordon made it 13-7 with back-to-back goals to start the fourth quarter while
Brett Everill put a stop to Utah State's comeback with his goal at the 4:20 mark of the fourth.
Kellen Lynn finished with a team-best five goals in the game. His fourth goal of the game was the eventual game winner and he also tallied back-to-back goals in the first quarter. Gordon chipped in four goals.
Benjamin Wright collected a team-best five ground balls.
Dallas McLellan made 14 saves in goal for his seventh win of the year.
Westminster returns to action when they head to San Rafael, California for two games in the Baggataway Tournament next weekend. Westminster plays Grand Canyon on Saturday, April 17. They take on host Dominican on Sunday, April 18. Both games will begin at 1 p.m.
