SALT LAKE CITY – Playing at home for the first time in 2009, the Westminster women's soccer team showed the tough early season schedule paid off. The Griffins recorded a 2-0 win over Kansas Wesleyan on Sunday morning. It was the second consecutive win for the Griffins after opening the year with four consecutive losses.
Sarah Swenson struck in the 29th minute to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. Swenson settled a
Michelle Erickson cross and put it in the bottom right corner of the net. The game remained 1-0 until the 72nd minute when
Megan Maldonado put away a pass from
Lindsay Judd pass for a 2-0 lead.
Westminster held Kansas Wesleyan to just two total shots while attempting 14 themselves. Maldonado and Swenson were the team leaders with three shots apiece.
Dayna Winter-Nolte picked up her third career shutout while making just one save.
Westminster returns to action on Monday, September 7, when they host Frontier Conference foe Great Falls at Dumke Field. That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
