OGDEN, Utah – The Westminster women's soccer team drop a tough 2-1 decision against Weber State on Friday evening. The Griffins played the NCAA DI foe tough for the entire 90 minutes, but fall to 0-2-0 on the season with the setback.

Heather Hillam put the Griffins ahead in the sixth minute when she buried a Vanessa Jordan corner kick into the back of the net from the top of the six. For Hillam it was her first goal of the season and the first time Westminster had held a lead this year.

“It was a great corner and a solid header to the far post,” head coach Tony LeBlanc said. “You can't ask for a better corner.”

Weber State wasted no time drawing even as Jessie Baddley hit a low drive from 20 yards out from Nicole Moore just 27 second later. The game remained tied at one until the 41st minute when they Weber State struck again. Abby Robinson headed a Kelly Robinson cross inside the right post to give the Wildcats a 2-1 advantage.

Westminster controlled the possession for much of the second half, but they failed to create any chances. Playing with an advantage, Weber State played solid defense and kept the Griffins from advancing into the box.

“We just didn't put away our opportunities tonight,” stated LeBlanc. “We had four great chances and against these types of teams you have to finish.”

Jordan led the Griffins with three shots, including two on frame. She got help in the shot department from Hillam and Nicole Taylor with two attempts each.

Dayna Winter-Nolte suffered the loss after allowing the two first half goals. She did record two saves before being replaced at halftime by Lindsay Bekken. Bekken turned away three attempts by the Wildcats in her 45 minutes of action.

Weber State keeper Rebecca Ritchie was forced into four saves in her first win of the season. The Wildcats finished the game with 17 shots, but only managed to get seven of those on frame. Maggie Burtel and Collette Simmons led the way with four shots apiece.

The Griffins return to the pitch on Thursday, August 27, when they face Hawaii Pacific for the first of three games in the Aloha State. While on the islands they will also visit Brigham Young-Hawaii and Chaminade.
