BOULDER, Colo. – The Westminster men's lacrosse team saw their quest for a third straight RMLC championship end as Northern Colorado rallied for a 16-13 win on Saturday afternoon. Westminster led 12-9 heading to the fourth quarter, only to see Northern Colorado score seven times in the fourth to claim their first conference championship.
Gian Sexsmith led the Griffins with four goals and added one assist. At one point in the first quarter, Sexsmith scored on three consecutive possessions.
Matt Balk added a goal for Westminster and Lance Nielsen was dominant in the face-off circle.
Westminster must now wait to see if the receive an at-large berth into the MCLA National Tournament. The Griffins are the defending national champion in the event.
