Griffin junior thrower Lopiseni Finau if filing a few Finau family firsts. Firstly, he’s a first-generation American amongst the Finau family tree and their Tongan heritage, and secondly, he’s the first Finau to attend college. Hailing from Hunter High School in West Valley City, Utah, Lopiseni will continue his track and field career with the Griffins, but the former Wolverine proved he’s more than throwing muscle while at Hunter High. Exhibiting more intricate skill with an additional tool, and involving spheres less aerodynamic than the discus and lighter than the shot, Lopiseni captained the Wolverine tennis team, and destroyed tiny plastic balls on the ping pong team. Lopiseni’s academic career was seeded as an Eagle Scout, and continued with Hunter High achievements including a Principal’s award and recognition as a Presidential and Sterling Scholar in Foreign Language. An Economics major with a French minor at Westminster, Lopiseni makes time for his creative musician side as a singer/song-writer, and a practitioner of bending guitar, ukulele and piano strings. Playing such a varied collection of instruments suggest a similarly diverse taste in genre, and Lopiseni does not disappoint as country, reggae, old-school rap and some pop all reside on his playlist. Favorite artists include Chris Stapleton, Home Free, Zach Brown Band, Maroon 5, Bob Marley, Eminem, and Tupac. Parents Paea and the senior Lopiseni; along with sisters Ta’alasi, Alai, and Petesi, cheer Monu'ia.
