The Westminster cross country teams took part in their second meet of the season Friday morning at the Autumn Classic in Orem, hosted by Brigham Young University. The field featured several Utah schools, including BYU, Snow College, and Weber State, along with Colorado Northern.
In the women's three-mile race, Westminster placed third behind BYU and Snow. Ashley Cottino led the Griffins with a 19th-place finish in 17:34.0. She was followed by Eileen O'Connor (23rd, 17:44), Angela Martin Rubin (26th, 18:13), Sonya Brunner (27th, 18:16), Haven Finley (33rd, 19:15), and Kira Tree (38th, 20:35).
On the men's side, Westminster finished fourth in the team standings for the 7k. Liam Thompson paced the Griffins with a time of 23:21, good for 52nd place and the 10th-fastest 7k in program history. He was followed by Elliot Vargas (57th, 23:38), Jacob Fornander (59th, 23:43), Diego Escalante (62nd, 23:46), Walker Hall (76th, 24:48), James Stock (78th, 25:23), Nicc Winegar (83rd, 27:15), and Samuel Clements (85th, 28:26).
The Griffins return to action next Friday, September 12, when they co-host the Beehive Classic at Sugarhouse Park with the University of Utah.
