Westminster XC Battles At First Ever Home Meet

Salt Lake City, UT — The Westminster Griffins traveled to Sugar House Park for the 2025 Beehive Invitational, facing one of the most competitive fields of the early cross-country season. Both the men's 7k and women's 5k races drew strong competition from top regional programs, including Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State, and Utah. Despite the stiff competition, Westminster athletes delivered impressive individual performances that highlighted their grit, speed, and determination.

On a challenging 7k course, Liam Thompson set the pace for the Westminster men, crossing the line in 24:27.15 to place 41st overall. His strong effort demonstrated not only physical endurance but also tactical awareness, as he navigated the crowded field with poise. Close on his heels, Elliot Vargas finished in 24:33.71, followed by Jacob Fornander in 24:41.84 and Diego Escalante in 25:06.53. Rounding out the men's lineup were James Stock, Walker Hall, Nicc Winegar, and Samuel Clements. Each Griffin battled the demanding course, showing resilience through the mid-race hills and finishing strong.

The Westminster women also turned in standout performances on the 5k course. Ashley Cottino led the pack for the Griffins, finishing 44th overall in 20:26.49. Her determined pace across Sugar House Park's varied terrain provided a strong early-season benchmark and inspired her teammates to push through the challenging race. Following Ashley, Eileen O'Connor crossed in 20:30.50, Sonya Brunner in 21:08.35, and Angela Martin Rubin in 21:35.27. With Haven Finley, Kira Tree, and Bianca Greco completing strong individual performances.

Looking Ahead

With several important meets on the horizon, the Griffins will continue to use these early-season competitions to refine their skills in preparation for the meets to come The goal is to be prepared and in peak form when conference competition arrives, using each race as an opportunity to learn and grow toward success later in the season.
