San Rafael, Calif. – The Westminster Griffins Women's Lacrosse team wrapped up their opening weekend in California with a hard-fought 12-9 loss to Dominican University of California on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins showed resilience after a slow start, but their fourth-quarter rally fell just short as they finished the weekend 1-1.
Dominican jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and extended their advantage to 9-3 by halftime. Westminster's offense found its rhythm in the second half, outscoring Dominican 6-3 in the final two quarters.
In the fourth quarter, the Griffins made a strong push, scoring five goals, including two from Olivia Petrosky and a man-up goal from Jordan Williamson. Despite Westminster's late surge, Dominican held on to secure the victory.
Offensive Leaders
The Griffins had four players find the back of the net:
Dominican was led by Morgan Newkirk, who recorded four goals, while Taylor Pieri (2), Brooke Vafi (2), and Olivia Johnson (2) also contributed to their offensive success.
Looking Ahead
The Griffins will return home for a scrimmage before heading back on the road to face Missouri Western State University on Thursday, February 27.
