Griffins Continue Push for Postseason Basketball at CSU Pueblo, Adams State

Westminster men's basketball sits in the eighth spot in the RMAC standings going into its penultimate conference road trip of the season.

SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster men's basketball (9-13, 7-9 RMAC) will make its second to last trip of the conference season as it heads east to Colorado to play CSU Pueblo (9-13, 6-10 RMAC) on Friday night followed by a game at Adams State (10-11, 6-9 RMAC) on Saturday night, both games tipping-off at 7:30 p.m.

- Westminster snapped a five-game losing skid with its six-point win over S.D. School of Mines this past Saturday.  Matt Kitzman led the team in scoring for the third time this season with 18 points that included three from behind the arc.
- Westminster knocked down a season-high 13 three-pointers in Thursday's six-point win over S.D. School of Mines.
- The Griffins suffered a nine-point loss at the hands of Colorado Mesa last Tuesday as the Mavericks put up 11 three's and outscored Westminster 33-20 in the second half.
- Over the past four games, Reme Torbert has led the Griffins with 12.8 ppg and 12 made three's while Kitzman has also poured in 12.5 ppg.
- Taylor Miller has averaged 7.3 ppg over the past four games, leading the Griffins at 50 percent shooting overall (12-of-24).

About the Pack (9-13, 6-10 RMAC):
- The Pack have dropped five of their last six overall, losing 88-86 in overtime to Chadron State last Sunda.
- CSU Pueblo defeated Black Hills State, 82-59, last Saturday and held the conference's leading scorer Joel Scott to just 16 points on the night.
- Saturday's win over BHSU snapped a four game losing streak as the Pack have gone just 3-7 since the new year.
- Lian Ramiro leads the Pack with 17.6 ppg and is tied for sixth in the conference with 50 made three's.
- Isaiah Thompson (6.8 rpg) and Elijah Moleon (6.4 rpg) are the team's two leading rebounders while Micah Lamberth has a team-high 23 steals defensively to go along with 12 blocks.
- CSU Pueblo will host a makeup game on Wednesday against N.M. Highlands.  The contest had originally been scheduled for Jan. 14.
- Series History:
    - Westminster is 6-5 all-time against the Pack after a one-point loss at home back in December.
    - Westminster went on a 10-0 run late in the second half back in December's matchup, but were unable to connect on a would-be game-tying free throw with less than one second to play in regulation as the Griffins fell, 78-77.
    - Brayden Johnson led Westminster with 22 points on the night and the Griffins shot 49 percent as a team overall, but missed seven free throw's on the night including the final attempt of the night that sealed the final result.
    - Westminster has won two of the past three all-time and is 2-2 all-time on the road in Pueblo.

About the Grizzlies (10-11, 6-9 RMAC):
- Adams State connected on a pair of free throws with seven seconds to play and avoided giving up a go-ahead bucket at the final buzzer in a 59-58 win over Chadron State to snap a three-game losing streak.
- ASU dropped a home game to 12th-ranked Regis in overtime, 95-93, back on Jan.28.
- Adams State has already faced three overtime games in RMAC play, going 2-1 with wins over Fort Lewis and Colorado Christian.
- Rylan O'Brien leads the Grizzlies with14.9 ppg while shooting 43 percent from the floor. O'Brien is a 39 percent three-point shooter, knocking down 2.0 3PT FG's per game.
- Nykolas Lange leads the Grizzlies with 39 made three's on the season and has added 9.1 ppg in 19 starts.
- Malik Moore (6.2 rpg) and Jordan Notch (5.2 rpg) lead the Grizzlies on the glass but ASU is last in the RMAC with only 31.8 rpg.
- Series History:
    - Westminster leads the all-time series 9-7 but it was the Grizzlies winning last season's matchup, 69-65, in Salt Lake City.
    - Westminster had won the previous two meetings before last season including a 71-67 win the last time the two played in Alamosa back on Jan. 31, 2020.
    - The Griffins are 3-2 all-time in Alamosa where they have won three of the last four matchups.

Westminster will be back at home for its final two games of the season in Behnken Field House next weekend as it hosts Colorado School of Mines on Friday, Feb. 18, and Regis University on Saturday, Feb. 19.
