STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - Julia Toiviainen won the women's giant slalom with a total time of 1:56.78, with her both her runs being the fastest of the day for the women's event, as Westminster men's and women's alpine ski teams competed in day one of the RMISA Championships at Steamboat Springs Resort.
On her first run she finished with a time of 59.06 seconds, and cut her second run down to 57.72 seconds. Four Westminster women finished in the top-10 all within 0.13 of second of each other.
Lana Zbasnik (sixth place),
Giulia Tintorri (seventh place),
Denise Dingsleder (eighth place), and
Hannah Saethereng (ninth place) brought home five of the total top 10's for the Griffins. Together the women's alpine ski team sped its way to the top team score, finishing with a total of 92 points.
For the Westminster men's team,
Francesco Gori finished in seventh place with a total time of 1:53.43, earning 25 points of the men's team score for the event.
Mikkel Solbakken had the second-best first run of the day, finishing with a time of 53.95. Overall, Westminster finished the day with a total score of 138 points.
The Griffins will continue day two of the 2022 RMISA Championships with the giant slalom event at Steamboat Springs Resort on Thursday, February 24th.
