Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Westminster men's lacrosse team defeated CSU Pueblo, 16-6, in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Semifinals. The Griffins will face Colorado Mesa in the finals Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
Spencer Whinery was key in propelling the Griffins to the finals over the Thunderwolves. Whinery scored a career-high in both goals and assists with five goals and four assists.
Jordan Penn made two saves as the Griffins shut the Thunderwolves out and took a three-point lead in the first period.
Gabe Mein scored the first goal with Whinery doubling the lead 35 seconds after.
Mike Spaeth added a third after 32 seconds.
The Griffins opened the second period with two quick goals before Pueblo got on the scoresheet. They finished the period with four more goals to take a seven-point, 9-2, halftime lead.
Westminster outscored the Thunderwolves 3-2 in the third period and 4-2 in the fourth period to defeat the Pack by 10, 16-6.
The Griffins picked up 42 ground balls, caused 12 turnovers and won 17-26 faceoffs.
Hagan Buchanan led the team with seven ground balls and went 10-12 on faceoffs. Roman Pepelyeav went 4-8 and
Marselus Seguin went 3-6 on faceoffs.
Timothy McGuire led the team with three caused turnovers.
Saturday's final is the fifth time, since the 2016 season, that the Griffins and Mavericks will face each other in the RMAC Final.
