Indoor Track and Field Season Gets Underway In Provo

Westminster men's and women's indoor track and field teams will travel to compete in the 2021 BYU Invite.

SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster men's and women's indoor track and field teams will begin the 2021-22 competition schedule on Thursday as they compete in the two-day BYU Invite in Provo, Utah at the Smith Field House.


Meet Information:

- Day 1 - Thursday, events begin at 11:15 a.m.
    - Long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus throw, weight through, women's pentathlon, men's heptathlon
- Day 2 - Friday, events begin at 11 a.m.
    - Pole vault, high jump, 60m, men's and women's 300m, men's 800m men's and women's 3000m, men's heptathlon
- Attendance: this is a non-ticketed event, however no public seating is available.

Women's Preview:
- Westminster had five women earn All-RMAC distinction at the 2021 RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
- Josii Johnson (800m), Hannah Rohrer-Fitzhugh (5k), and Katie Brotherson (Pentathlon) earned First Team All-RMAC honors.  Johnson and Rohrer-Fitzhugh placed third in the conference in their respective events and Brotherson placed second in hers as all three set Westminster program records at the 2021 indoor championships.
- Saydi Anderson and Hannah Rohrer-Fitzhugh were the first to compete this season as the pair traveled to run in the women's 5k at the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Classic in Golden, Colo.
- Anderson finished first in last week's 5k in Golden, clocking a time of 17:52.68.
- Emily Malouf will compete in the women's discuss and shot-put events while Madison Hooper will compete in the field of women's long jumpers as well as the tripple jump on day one of the BYU Invite.

Men's Preview:
- Westminster's men had two finish as first-team All-RMAC performers at the 2021 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.  Aiden Urban and Tony Nickerson finished first and second, respectively, with Urban setting a personal and program record en route to his conference title in the men's 800-meters.
- Junior Zach Stanton and Maxwell Mertz will compete in Thursday's long jump and triple jump events.

Up Next:
This weekend's BYU Invite will be the first of two indoor meets at the Smith Field House in Provo.  Westminster will see a break in competition before returning to action at the next BYU Invite on Jan. 13-15.
