ASPEN, Colo.—The Westminster women's alpine ski team are off to a strong start to the 2021 season, finishing first in the giant slalom at the University of Denver Invitational. The team recorded 100 points in the giant slalom #1 and giant slalom #2 to finish 52 points ahead of second place Montana State University.
Julia Toiviainen finished first for her first career podium finish. She recorded the fastest time in all four runs finishing 1:06.25 in the first run of giant slalom #2, 1:06.61 in giant slalom #1, 1:07.54 in giant slalom #2 and 1:07.79 in giant slalom #1.
Lana Zbasnik finished fourth in giant slalom #1 and #2. She had the third fastest time in the second run of giant slalom #1, 1:08.50, and the third and fifth fastest times in giant slalom #2, 1:06.72 and 1:08.15 respectively.
Hannah Saethereng finished fifth in giant slalom #1 and #2. She had the fifth fastest times in both runs of giant slalom #1, 1:07.81 and 1:08.72 respectively, and the second fastest run of the second run of giant slalom #2, 1:07.63.
Henriette Resen finished 10
th in giant slalom #1. She didn't finish the second run of giant slalom #2 but finished the first run in 1:06.47 for the second fastest time of the first run.
Juliette Gauthier finished 14
th in giant slalom #1 and 11
th in giant slalom #2.
The men race in the giant slalom tomorrow, Jan. 10, and then the teams head to Eldora Resort, in Nederland, Colo., to race in the slalom at the Colorado Invitational on Jan. 12 and 13.
