THORNTON, Colo.—The Westminster women's golf team finished second at the Swan Memorial Invitational, hosted by Colorado Christian, at the Todd Creek Golf Club.
The Griffins began the day with a five-stroke lead behind strong first round performances from senior
Cailyn Clayton, freshman
Whitney Banz and graduate
Cassie Campos. Clayton shot 1-over for a share of the lead, Banz was 2-over in third and Campos was 4-over tied for seventh.
Despite Westminster's effort in round 2, a late charge by UCCS allowed them to pass the Griffins on the final hole, turning in a score of 613 (+37) for the win. The Griffins posted a score of 617 (+41) to finish second, and Colorado Mesa finished third with a score of 623 (+47). Faith Kilgore of CCU turned in a second-round score of 65 (-7) to take individual honors carding a two-round score of 141 (-1).
Freshman
Tuesday Epperson was Westminster's top golfer in round two carding 5-over, 77, to finish in a three-way tie for seventh with teammates Campos and Banz who reported a final score of 155 (+11). Clayton finished 12
th with a score of 158 (+14) and senior
Kanna Crosland finished tied for 22
nd with a score of 165 (+21).
Katelyn Day competed as an individual and posted a final score of 176 (T38).
The Griffins next tournament is the DBU Women's Classic, hosted by Dallas Baptist University of the Lone Star Conference, on Sep. 21-22 at the Wildhorse Golf Club in Denton, Tex.
